The word ya usually means "already":
Ya tengo los billetes de avión – I have already got airplante tickets
But it can be used to show solidarity or to admit the other person is right:
– Estoy muy cansada. Claro, con dos niños pequeños... – I am very tired. Of course, with two little children...
– Ya – I see / I know
– Te veo un poco preocupado – You seem worried
– Ya, es que mañana tengo un examen = You are right, tomorrow I have an exam
When we agree with somebody, but not at all, use ya with pero:
– Tienes que estudiar, mañana tienes un examen – You should study, you have an exam tomorrow
– Ya, pero estoy muy cansada... – I know, but I´m very tired...
The word pues is used to contrast our opinion with others:
– Me gusta mucho el helado – I like ice-cream very much
– Pues a mí no me gusta nada – Well, I don´t like it at all– No tengo hambre – I´m not hungry
– Pues yo sí – I am
It´s used also to emphasize sí or no:
– Mamá, ¿me compras un helado? – Mom, can you buy me an ice-cream?
– Pues no – NO– Madrid es muy bonito – Madrid is beautiful
– Pues sí – Of course it is
