The verb «to play» has two Spanish translations. If we speak about sport, we must use jugar. Unlike in English, in Spanish it is used with the preposition a and a determined article:
Me gusta jugar al fútbol– I like playing football
Mi marido y yo jugamos al golf – My husband and I play golf
When we speak about music we must use tocar. This verb is used without any preposition but always with a determined article:
Toco el piano – I
play piano
Quiero aprender a tocar la guitarra – I want to learn to play the guitar
If we make sport regularly we use
hacer + sport name:
Hago ___ yoga – I practice yoga
Mi novia
hace ___ pilates – My girlfriend does Pilates
